Summary:
In the Percy Jackson series, we meet Percy, a young boy who is struggling with dyslexia and ADHD. Percy finds out that he’s a demigod and his father is Poseidon, Greek god of the sea and water. He goes to Camp Half Blood which is a magical camp on Long Island where demigods can live in peace protected from monsters. While he is there he gets sent on many quests to help the gods and defeat Kronos the titan of time who poses a threat to the whole world. On his adventures he must travel everywhere from the Underworld to Mount Olympus.
What I liked and didn’t like:
I love all kinds of mythology but especially Greek mythology. This series is a perfect Greek mythology adventure series. I also like how relatable it is. For example in the first book Percy has to deal with bullies even though he’s a demigod. This really ties you to these characters making them seem just like you. Another thing I like is how well everything is thought through down to the chapter titles. The titles are funny and don’t make sense until you've read the chapter. For example, the first title is I accidentally vaporize my pre-algebra teacher. I didn’t really dislike anything about this series because it’s just so great.
What books this is like:
This book is a lot like the later series Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo (click here to see that report). They all involve Greek mythology and use mostly the same characters. So I’d definitely recommend those books after the Percy Jackson series. This book is also like Charlie Hernandez as it has the same mythology-questy feel.
