Summary:

In Journey to the Center of the Earth we meet Harry and his uncle. They discover an encoded slip of paper with instructions on how to travel to the center of the Earth. Harry figures out how to decode it and it leads them to Iceland. There they meet Hans, a guide who is willing to travel with them through Iceland into the depths of the earth. They journey through catacombs, tunnels and other natural wonders until they reach the center of the earth. There they find an amazing wonder that is nothing like the likes of what they’ve seen before.

What I liked and didn’t like:

I loved this adventure story so much. I learned a lot reading this about geology and science. I learned many things like for example there’s a bunch of volcanoes in Iceland.. I also liked how well they explained everything so you really felt like you were there journeying with them as they found and discovered everything. However one thing I didn’t like was that it was kind of confusing since it was written and set in the 1800s. They talked about a bunch of confusing old stuff some of which I didn’t understand.

What books this is like:

This book is a lot like Hatchet as it has sort of a survival theme to it. Just like Hatchet they have to overcome a lot of hardships in an unfamiliar place. However it is different from Hatchet as they have a lot of resources and the book is a longer and harder read. For example in Hatchet all Brian has is his Hatchet. However, here they have many bags full of supplies.
